At Stamford School, we believe in providing our students with a holistic education that extends beyond the confines of the classroom. As part of our commitment to outdoor education, our Grade 9 and 10 students recently embarked on an unforgettable camp trip to Chengdu and Yangshuo.
Chengdu: A Cultural Odyssey
Our G9 and G10 students explored the vibrant city of Chengdu, known for its rich cultural heritage and culinary delights. They savored the flavors of Sichuan cuisine, attended mesmerizing Sichuan opera performances, and visited historic sites that took them back in time. Additionally, the highlight of their Chengdu experience was the visit to the Chengdu Research Base for Giant Panda Breeding. Witnessing these gentle giants up close, students learned about conservation efforts and developed a deep appreciation for the importance of protecting endangered species.
Yangshuo: Nature’s Playground
In Yangshuo, our students immersed themselves in the breathtaking natural landscapes of the region. They embarked on invigorating hikes along the picturesque Yulong River, witnessing the awe-inspiring beauty of the mountains and lush greenery. Rock climbing tested their adventurous spirit as they pushed their limits and conquered new heights. They also engaged in traditional Chinese painting, tried kayaking, and delved into Chinese tea culture. At a local plantation, our intrepid students took part in each step of the tea-making process, from picking leaves to the craft of tea tasting, guided by seasoned professionals.
Cultural Immersion and Personal Growth
Students embraced new experiences, fostering resilience, adaptability, and independence. The trip strengthened connections with peers and teachers, promoting a supportive community. They returned with confidence, broader perspectives, and a stronger sense of their capabilities.
At Stamford, outdoor education is integral to our program, beginning in the preschool grades. It cultivates independence, deeper connections, and essential social-emotional skills. The camp trip to Chengdu and Yangshuo expanded students’ horizons, complementing their academic growth. Stamford is committed to providing transformative experiences that equip our students to thrive in an interconnected and dynamic world, fostering their independence, resilience, and global perspective.
